A pet owner in Regina, Saskatchewan made a disturbing discovery that put the lives of her three dogs in danger.

Emma Medeiros was in her backyard with her three dogs, Pandora, Ophelia, and Penelope, when she noticed strange pieces of meat lying near the patio. What she found was three pieces of hot dog stuffed with about 15 shards of metal razor blades. The hot dogs were not in her yard the day before, and the only explanation she can come up with is that someone threw them over her fence to purposefully harm her dogs.

After finding the potentially fatal treats, Medeiros notified the police and the Regina Humane Society. She also talked about the incident on Facebook. She warned her neighbors to check their yards, and she can't help but wonder what would have happened if one of her dogs had found the hot dogs before she did.

Im not sure where to post this but I took my fur babies out for a peee this morning and happened to notice some hot dog in my yard, which is very unusual. So i went up to the pieces and it turns out theres a bunch of razor blades in each piece.... im located on 6th & queen so anyone around me, PLEASE CHECK YOUR YARDS!!!!

According to the Regina Humane Society, similar incidents are reported every year. Cans of dog food are laced with poison and different types of food are stuffed with potentially harmful objects. In Wisconsin, dogs are getting sick from poisoned hot dogs wrapped in dental floss.

Bill Thorn from the Regina Humane Society suggests the incidents are random and encourages pet owners to be diligent about what their dogs put in their mouths. After narrowly avoiding a serious medical emergency, Medeiros plans to take extra precautions to keep her dogs safe. She told CBC:

"I'm definitely going to come out with my dogs every minute of the day now."

She also plans to clean her yard every day while keeping an eye out for more suspicious-looking meat. The razor-filled hot dogs she found in her yard took time and effort to prepare. The metal shards were broken and hidden within the meat.

Whether the incident is random or a personal attack on Ophelia, Penelope, and Pandora, Medeiros and her neighbors aren't willing to take chances. Whoever did it wanted to cause harm to an animal. If you have any information about the incident, contact the Regina Humane Society.
