What began as a carefree, 21st birthday celebration quickly turned into something much different.
Rafael Pease and a friend were enjoying a day of snowboarding in the Chilean Andes in celebration of Pease's birthday.
As they cut through the fresh powder, Pease noticed what he thought was a rock a ways away. However, after looking a little harder, Pease realized that the "rock" was actually a horse - a horse in a serious predicament.
Pease and his friend immediately set to work freeing the horse, who was stuck in ice and snow up to her belly. The two used snow shovels to clear enough of the snow away to free the fatigued horse. They fed her, and then slowly escorted her down the mountain.
Once they reached the bottom, the horse and her owner were reunited. According to the owner, the horse had been missing for four days.
The snowboarders captured the amazing rescue on a GoPro, and you can watch it unfold here:
Pease wrote about his amazing experience in a blog post on The Inerti:
"I have been through a lot in life, and through it all I have realized that it's well worth it to watch out for others - whether they are human or not. And that's what me and my riding partner did...Hopefully this inspires you to get out there and not only live your life to the fullest, but to help others do the same."
Words to live by; pass this on by sharing.
