Two horses were found dead after being shot in what appears to be an intentional, and inexplicable, act of violence.
A 12-year-old Belgian draft horse named Prince, well known and beloved by his town of Charlotte, Michigan, was found dead of a gunshot wound.
Another horse named Duke survived the ordeal but not before sustaining a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was found trembling next to Prince's body when Prince's owner, Kelsie Newman, found them.
If the loss of Prince and injury toward Duke wasn't enough, Newman also suffered the loss of her beloved riding horse named Solo, who was kept in a separate pasture. Solo, like Prince, was found with a gunshot wound to his stomach and died in the barn after the family did all they could to save him.
Newman and her family are, of course, shocked and saddened by the events, and cannot figure out why anyone would target the horses.
"We've cried for days about it," she told the news outlet.
With nothing left to do, the town is now searching for any information that may lead to the arrest of those involved in the shooting.
Eaton County Undersheriff Jeff Cook said:
"We're asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to call us."
Anyone with information can call the Eaton County Sheriff's Office at 517-543-5519 or 517-543-5447.
