Pet owners are especially outraged after quotes surfaced about Trump's feelings regarding pet ownership.
The president reportedly called it "low-class" to own pets. He also said he was "embarrassed" when Vice President Mike Pence announced in January his plans to move into the Naval Observatory with his family and their menagerie, which included two cats, a rabbit, and a snake.
News of Trump's statements have resurfaced in the wake of Pence's loss of his family cat of 16 years, Pickle, who died in June. However, Pence wasn't fazed by Trump's scorn for his menagerie, and the family soon added a puppy and kitten to their home.
The remarks appeared in an article published by The Atlantic. An adviser to the president stated that Trump "thinks the Pences are yokels." In other words, he sees his handpicked VP and the rest of the Pence family as uneducated, unsophisticated country bumpkins, per the dictionary definition of a yokel.

Trump is the first U.S. President in close to 130 years to not have a dog in the White House. Pence, on the other hand, has an Instagram for his rabbit, Marlon Bundo, more affectionately known to the world as BOTUS or Bunny of the United States.
People are so outraged that it's difficult to keep up with all the tweets in response to Trump's public contempt for animals. Thankfully, at least the VP doesn't seem to share in the president's sentiment.
