This Somersaulting Cat Should Be in the Olympics

If cat gymnastics were an Olympic sport, then this somersaulting cat would certainly earn himself a place on the team!

Cats are known for being a little...unusual. You never know quite what they'll get up to next. From hiding in cupboards and drawers to running around the house meowing at 3 a.m., cats are full of surprises. They're also great at keeping you entertained - that is, when they're not sleeping. And with all of the crazy cat videos out there, we'd thought we'd seen it all. But nope - we hadn't yet seen this somersaulting cat.

Now, don't get me wrong. This cat isn't just an off-balance feline who tumbles around. No, this somersaulting cat seriously and deliberately somersaults. And he does it again and again and again. There's no describing this talented guy. You really have to take a look for yourself.

In all truth, cats make some excellent gymnasts. They're highly flexible and can comfortably curl up into small balls. Their spines are designed to allow for this unmatched flexibility, and cats take full advantage of it. Agile, athletic, and with super-quick reflexes, cats are made to be gymnasts. And don't forget about their excellent balance, thanks to their tails. Balance beams would be no problem for cats!

As for why the cat in this video enjoys somersaulting around the house? Who knows? It almost looks like he's playing, and the action is definitely deliberate. Maybe he's realized that he gets attention when he somersaults, and does it as a sort of entertainment.

If you ever notice your cat take up a somersaulting behavior, it's important to make sure that there isn't something physically wrong with your cat. If your cat falls over or loses his balance and somersaults as a result, this could indicate an illness or injury that needs immediate treatment.

The better you know your cat, the more accurately you'll be able to assess whether your cat is just playing around or whether something is actually wrong. If you have any doubt, be sure to bring your cat to the vet.
