Leaving a dog behind for any reason is difficult, but it gets harder the longer the period of time that you'll be gone. If you know you have to leave your dog, make arrangements ahead of time to ensure that he has the best of care. Always leave contact information so that you can be reached in an emergency, and it's a good idea to also leave contact for people who can serve as additional emergency contacts if you can't be reached.
There are all sorts of different arrangements for your dog's care. Perhaps a family member or friend can care for your dog while you're away. Other options include boarding and pet sitters. The right option will depend on your dog's personality, your finances, and the amount of time that you'll be away for.
Though it's never fun to be apart from your dog, you can be guaranteed that you'll get quite the greeting when you're reunited again.
Have you ever been away from your dog for a long period of time? How did he react when you got home?
