Fearless, daring, and with amazing balance, these mounted games riders aren't afraid of speed.
Mounted games. It sounds innocent enough; think games like the egg and spoon race on horseback. Fun, laid-back, and maybe a little competitive, right? Not if you're competing against these riders. Because these mounted games riders are absolutely unreal.
If you're timid or afraid of speed, mounted games aren't for you, at least not at this level. Because these riders gallop, dismount moving horses, lean way off the sides of their horses' backs, and do any other number of feats that just blow us away. Seriously, it seems like they have Velcro seats. And let's not overlook their horses, either - they're agile, fast, and can turn on a dime.
Take a look at these riders in action to see what I'm talking about.
If you love a challenge and a good gallop, then mounted games might be in your future. You'll need a fast horse, ideally one who is close to the ground to accommodate the various times you'll have to mount and dismount on the fly. You'll also need excellent control of that horse, including over his speed and steering.
And then you'll have to practice. You don't get this good from just showing up at competitions now and again. No, you can be guaranteed that these riders are honing their skills at home. Plus, game riders' horses need training and conditioning in order to be able to withstand the physical demands of competition.
Mounted games are definitely fun, but there's a competitive factor, too. If you have a games meet near you, think about giving it a try. You might just find your new favorite sport.
