The Sad Story of a Senior Cocker Spaniel up for Adoption in Houston

Meet Jack.

Jack is a sweet old Cocker Spaniel from Tennessee who, until now, really had a great life. The old canine had been living with his owner and they were happy. But when Jack's owner passed away in 2017, the remaining family gave Jack up to the shelter. Luckily a member of Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue (GCCSR) in Houston, Texas happened to see a photo of Jack at the Tennessee shelter. Jack looked exactly like the GCCSR's forever foster Bobo, so Jack was brought back to Houston!

He is now in a foster home, where he is getting along fine with the cats and dogs in the house. He doesn't have the nickname "Gentleman Jack" for nothing! He still needs a forever home though, and GCCSR is looking for the right person to care for the special dog.

The shelter estimates Jack is 13 years old, and senior dogs do need special attention. He was diagnosed with Cushing's disease in 2014 but it is under control with daily medication. When Jack's owner passed away his medication ran out, so Jack is still recovering from minor hair loss. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. He is scheduled to get some dental work done and have some warts removed.

Like most senior dogs, Jack is content with lots of naps and ear scratches. He promises he will be easy to take care of and won't require too much attention.

He just needs a home where he can spend the rest of his days.

If you or someone you know could make room in the house for 'ol Jack, apply for adoption here.
