Taco the Therapy Donkey is Stealing Hearts All Over Texas

Children and veterans alike go to Equest for the special support of equine therapy, but they also find something they weren't expecting.

Situated in the picturesque countryside of Southeast Dallas, Equest is a nonprofit organization operating as part of the newly opened Texas Horse Park.

They have a team of therapy horses that helps children and adults physically, emotionally, and psychologically, but you'll find more than horses and humans interacting in their barn.

Taco was a good boy while being measured for a blanket 😄 if you have a gently used blanket that is 38 inches long and will wrap around a 64 inch girth, Taco will gladly take it off your hands! #TacoTuesday

A miniature donkey named Taco may be the smallest in the herd, but he has a big impact on Equest staff and visitors. Taco was found abandoned after wandering the countryside with no notion of where he came from or whom he belonged to.

He was brought to Equest, but his transition to life in the barn wasn't easy. The small donkey was scared and anxious around people. He spent his first days with Equest cowering in the corner of his stall, and it was obvious he didn't trust anyone around him.

But overcoming fears and inhibitions is a specialty for the Equest team, and they weren't willing to give up on Taco. They continued working with the rescue donkey on a daily basis, and eventually, he started making progress.

Taco gradually grew accustomed to being around people, and his true personality started to show.

Happy #TacoTuesday!

Today, Taco is a rising star at the barn. He's playful and curious and loves interacting with people. His rescuers will never know what kind of life Taco had before he was found, but it's clear his story is one of strength and resiliency.

He recently started working with children who come to the barn, and he's been given the official title of therapy donkey.

Taco was abandoned and afraid, but now he's making a positive difference in the lives of people. It's hard to tell who enjoys the therapy sessions more, those he helps, or Taco himself.
