Who said you have to follow the crowd? This smart donkey is an independent thinker and finds his own way over the fence.
Donkeys are often seen as being stubborn and difficult to work with, but truth is, donkeys are actually really smart. That stubbornness may be that a donkey knows he shouldn't put forth any more effort than is really necessary. At least, that's what's happened in the case of this smart donkey.
The donkeys in this video each have to hop over a fence. It's not a high fence, but it requires a little effort to get over. And there lies the problem, at least for the last donkey in line. Because to hop over the low-lying fence? It's far too much effort, especially when this smart donkey spots a much easier alternative.
Donkeys are still used as pack animals today, and many people keep them as companion animals for horses and livestock. Donkeys are highly protective and territorial, and have been known to run off predators, including bears. Their loud bray is an excellent warning sign when danger is present, and donkeys can help to keep herds of horses and other livestock safe.
An added bonus? Donkeys tend to be easy keepers. They don't require the significant amounts of hay and grain that some horses do in order to keep weight on. In fact, some donkeys are such easy keepers that obesity becomes a problem, and their access to lush pasture must be restricted.
If you're looking for a fun, intelligent addition to your farm, a donkey, or even a miniature donkey, might be just right for you.
