Puppy Forced Into Keg Stand at Frat Party in Viral Video

This is the type of news we, sadly, feel obligated to share with our readers. The video is so shocking and graphic, I don't blame anyone for only watching once and then hugging your dog or cat that's closest to you.

Why would this behavior or act be considered funny? What about drinking and animals is funny? This horrible act caught on video was done to a puppy. Yes, you read that correctly. The puppy was forced to do a keg stand at a frat party.

Let's unpack this right now, and start by showing you the tweet from a bystander at a fraternity party.

A snapchat video posted over the weekend showed a dog being forced to drink beer from a keg. The video was taken at an off-campus Hofstra University frat party Saturday. We are grateful that this individual was brave enough to question why this was happening at all. See for yourself. I love that she tagged PETA. To be clear, she also tweets that she isn't bashing frat life just the behavior of the individual. She was trying to be a voice for the animal.

This dog was recovering, and I'm sure he hopes he never has to attend frat parties again. He won't, according to the Nassau County SPCA.

CBS New York explained:

"The Nassau County SPCA said the dog's owner - a 21-year-old senior at Hofstra - surrendered Buddy to them."

The interview revealed that the dog was 100 percent O.K. after the incident:

"Initially there was no ill effect from the alcohol. We had bloodwork done, he was seen by a neurologist, and by an emergency vet, and gave the dog a clean bill of health."

CBS New York also reports that the owner of the 10-month-old King Charles Cavalier is one of the men in the video, and he may face charges. They interviewed Gary Rogers of the Nassau County SPCA:

"A misdemeanor for failure to provide adequate sustenance and overdrive and torture of an animal," Rogers said. "The pup's owner is a 21-year-old senior at Hofstra, where some students viewed the stunt as beyond sophomoric."

The fraternity placed the Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter at Hofstra University on 'cease and desist' due to "suspected violations of our health and safety policies."

So what exactly should we take away from this? Not everyone deserves to live with an animal, clearly. When it comes to "prevention of cruelty," how exactly do we teach people that behavior like this isn't O.K.? It's more than just irrational thinking, and it's more than abusive drinking at a fraternity house. Hoping the more people that watch this person forcing a puppy to drink from a keg spread the word that this is animal cruelty.

This poor, sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel didn't deserve the abuse. We thank the student that decided this wasn't ok and that being a voice for this animal was the right thing to do. She's my hero.
