According to 14-year-old Andrew, there's nothing better in the world than pugs, so his pug-themed birthday party made for one unforgettable day!
Growing up, Andrew, a 14-year-old boy with autism, didn't have too many friends. He would often create a world filled with imaginary buddies, all of whom happened to be his favorite type of dog - pugs! He and his family have always lived in places where dogs just aren't allowed, so he would express his love for the breed with items featuring those scrunchy faces, such as backpacks, t-shirts, and wallets.
When his birthday rolled around this year, his sister McKenna wanted to do something extra special for her brother, and couldn't think of anything that would make him happier than a pug-themed birthday party.
"I was speaking to a neighbor a few weeks ago and the subject came up about my brother always getting excited when he bumps into her while she is walking her dog Ziggy," McKenna said, in an interview with The Dodo.
From there, McKenna made a Facebook post asking if anyone with a pug would like to show up at Andrew's birthday BBQ. She wanted to make this a special surprise as it would be his first party.
"He has always been too scared to have one in fear of nobody showing up," she said.
The post started gaining shares online, but with just three days before the party, only one person with a pug had RSVP'd yes. That's when Pug Nation Rescue of Los Angeles stepped in and shared the event with their followers. On the big day, 15 pugs were waiting to surprise Andrew, and over 80 pugs and their owners stopped by to wish him a happy birthday throughout the course of the day.
Andrew and his family are said to be incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support and for everyone who helped make his 14th (and very first ever) birthday party an extra special day.
