If you had to guess the most popular breed of dog in the United States, what would you choose?
Find out if your pick is on the list of the most popular dog breeds in America!
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has made its list of the most popular dog breeds in America for 2016.
The AKC has been keeping records of the dogs registered in the United States since 1927, making it the largest dog registry in the world.
For those that were keeping score at home, the list is pretty much the same as last year. Coming in at number five is the Beagle. These family-friendly hounds have a compact size and are great with kids, so it's no surprise they've made this list year after year.
Coming in at fourth place is the Bulldog. These sweet little hams have great personalities and if you're looking for a dog with minimal exercise needs, Bulldogs are for you.
In third place is the Golden Retriever. Not only are these popular family pets, they are commonly used as service dogs due to their high intelligence and easygoing personalities.
Holding the second place spot is the German Shepherd. These intelligent dogs are increasingly used as service and police dogs, but are equally as suited to be family pets.
And finally, the most popular breed in the United States is the Labrador Retriever. This should be no surprise as these goofy canines have topped the list for 25 years in a row. As an active, friendly, and outgoing breed it's no surprise that they continue to be the number one choice for those looking to add a new dog to the family.
The Lab shouldn't get too comfortable though. The AKC has shared that the French Bulldog is slowly but surely climbing its way to the popular breed list. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in 2017!
Come on French Bulldogs, we're rooting for you to mix up this list!
