With all the controversy surrounding Donald Trump, PETA saw the perfect opportunity to launch a new campaign: Grab a Pussy (Cat).

If you've been following the news at all lately, then you likely know about the video which emerged, capturing Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump talking about how he makes moves on women. The video has spurred national controversy, but People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) saw opportunity in the publicity that has resulted.

PETA has launched its "Grab a Pussy" Cat campaign to encourage the public to adopt cats from shelters. The campaign, which focuses on New York, carries the subtitle, "Adopt a cat from your local shelter."

The campaign is certainly eye-catching and is bound to gain some attention, especially in light of the recent presidential campaign events and controversy.

In a statement to US Weekly, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk stressed:

"The sensationalism of this election has rendered many other important issues invisible. We hope this twist in our approach will cause people to open their minds to the crisis facing animals, and open their home to a beautiful cat from a shelter."

The "Grab a Pussy" campaign is scheduled to debut in Manhattan some time before the November 8th elections. Hopefully the campaign will help to empty the shelters of the thousands of cats that they hold every year.

Shelter overcrowding is a major issue in the United States. In an effort to encourage people to adopt, shelters have gotten quite creative with their advertising and outreach attempts. One shelter took to promoting their cats like used cars in a memorable and funny video. Another shelter has begun to allow dogs to go home on sleepovers with potential adoptive families. One shelter took a different approach, putting adoptable dogs in photo booths to truly capture their personalities in pictures.

Encouraging adoption is all about getting the public's interest and reminding them that there are great pets out there waiting for homes. With any luck, PETA's campaign will have just that effect.
