It was a baby alligator.
Police and the Philadelphia Fire Department were called to a small apartment fire Wednesday night. Two residents inside the building were evacuated with no serious injuries as flames were quickly brought under control.
But then something else was evacuated: a baby alligator.
The alligator was seized by animal control from a fish tank "covered in green slime," but also uninjured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Alligators are legal to sell and own in Pennsylvania but you must have an exotic wildlife permit.
