Every year, something amazing happens on the Colorado River that runs through Austin, Texas.
The Paddle for Puppies event raises money that goes towards no-kill shelter Austin Pets Alive's program for parvo. The program has saved at least 500 puppies affected by the virus that would otherwise be euthanized.
Participants bring their puppies and paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes, or can rent from the Rowing Dock on the Colorado River. The paddlers then trek down to the famous Congress Bridge.
The day was filled with fun in the sun and water, and lots of talented puppies! There was even a stand-up-paddleboarder with five pups on her board! It was impressive.
Austin Pets Alive does amazing things for pets that need help in Austin. They are nationally renowned for their creative marketing ideas; so much so, that they are starting a program to help teach other shelters the best ways to utilize their communities to help pets find homes.
