Elliot is the youngest and cutest member of the New Zealand Police Department. Oh, right, and he's a guinea pig.

New Zealand has welcomed a four-legged furball to its police force in the form of a four-year-old guinea pig named Elliot. He is, of course, the best officer in all the land.

Elliot's human works in the media department for the New Zealand Police Department, and the fluffster was recently--and officially--initiated as honorary media spokesperson. He posts on the department's Facebook page to bring awareness to certain issues, like robbery and road safety.

To legitimize the situation, the squeaker was given his own teeny tiny uniform and mini cop mobile.

Elliot's Facebook posts often share self-deprecating humor in an effort to educate. In one of his most riveting posts, he said:

"Did you know that a piggie's top speed can be around 9km/hr? Not me, I have gone a bit overboard on the carbs lately and need to lighten up, so I go even slower. I am not too fast and that's the way I like it - slow is safe!

Keep this in mind when you are driving near any schools tomorrow. Remember people, the kids are going to be out and about walking and biking, and crossing roads. Like me, they are small and unpredictable, so you have to watch out!

Keep an eye out for school patrols and please do your part in keeping our kids safe. Drive to the conditions, reduce your speed and stay alert. Oh, and eat your greens....always eat your greens."

If you're like us, you're probably looking up flights to New Zealand right now to figure out how you can get pulled over for a speeding ticket by this law-enforcing nugget in the land of Kiwis.

For those of you who can't skip town just yet, you can live vicariously through the New Zealand Department's Facebook page or Elliot's new "acting" page, Constable Elliot the Guinea Pig, where he reportedly hangs on his days off. The page stretches a banner across the top with a guinea pig's favorite food, watermelon.

The Internet is also having a heyday (or in the cavy's case, hayday) with Constable Elliot memes:

Share this with your fellow animal lovers who could use a pick-me-up today. In fact, they might even want to join Elliot "in the clover" on his coffee break.

In addition to dogs, the New Zealand Police Department also has a resident cat, Constable Snickers, at their northern station. He doesn't have his own hat, though.
