A band has chosen racehorse Spectacular Bid as the subject of its newest music video, and we're in love!
Norma's new song "Spectacular Bid" pays tribute to the legendary racehorse - not only through its lyrics but also in a stirring music video.
The song includes quotes from Spectacular Bid's jockey and trainer and brings the legend back to life with breathtaking race scenes and slow motion footage. Watching the video feels very much like being in the middle of a race, and though the song's lyrics are somewhat simple, the intense beat evokes the motion of galloping horses.
Take a look!
The video was filmed at Bro Park race track outside Stockholm, Sweden and stars Swedish jockey Per Anders Gråberg.
Spectacular Bid was a champion Thoroughbred racehorse who won 26 of 30 races. He raced from 1978 through 1980 and won Eclipse Awards during the three seasons that he raced.
During his first racing season as a two-year-old, Spectacular Bid won 7 of 9 races. As a three-year-old, he won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. A Triple Crown bid, however, was not to be, as on the morning of the Belmont Stakes, it was discovered that the racehorse had stepped on a safety pin. The pin was embedded in the hoof, and while the horse was entered in the race and allowed to run, he didn't win.
Spectacular Bid raced against Triple Crown Winner Affirmed in October 1979, where he came in second. It was the last race he ever lost.
During his career as a four-year-old, Spectacular Bid won all nine races that he was entered in. He was deemed American Horse of the Year and was retired to stud. He was syndicated for $22 million and sired 253 winning racehorses.
How wonderful to have a music video pay tribute to one of America's greatest racehorses!
