Dogs Save Man In Mud

These dogs saved their owner's life. I can imagine this man felt like he was in quicksand as the mud started to get harder to move around in! This is so scary. The smartest thing he did was immediately let go of the leashes and hope his dogs would run to the path where people were walking so he could be saved.

The man was playing on the shore of the Potomac River with his two dogs and then he got stuck in the mud.

The Weather Channel unpacked this story and interviewed the chief spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

"Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, told weather.com the man was playing with his dogs at about 2:30 p.m. on the shore of the Potomac River in the C&O National Park near Bethesda, Maryland, when he stepped into thick mud to retrieve a stick and started sinking."

His dogs were barking and a passing cyclist noticed their agitation, stopped, and heard the man yelling for help. Thank goodness! When they cyclist passed the man had been trapped for about an hour and at that point was in mud up to above his knees.

Weather Channel reports that rescuers responded with a water rescue team, boats, vehicles, and ATVs. Piringer, the spokesperson, said such mud rescues are very rare, but a woman drowned a few years ago in a similar situation.

Thank goodness the man didn't drown.

This man was on the Potomac River in the C&O National Park near Bethesda, Maryland. His heroic dogs should receive a steak for making sure their owner who was sinking in knee-deep mud was saved! This is the definition of man's best friend. We love these pooches. Would your dogs save you?
