Lu-Seal came to the shelter morbidly obese.

Little black-and-white Chihuahua Lu-Seal was abandoned at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Animal Rescue weighing 16 pounds. She was too fat to walk.

This senior pooch was soon picked out from the crowd by Julia Morley, who took it upon herself to help Lu-Seal lose weight. The eight-month diet and exercise plan worked wonders and you won't believe the progress the adorable dog made!

Pet obesity is a serious problem. According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 59% of cats and 54% of dogs were obese in America in 2016. This has to do with the amount of grain and fillers like corn in pet food and veterinarians around the country warn pet owners to read labels carefully. They will also tell you to not overfeed your pet and to exercise daily.

In little Lu-Seal's case, her body weight was even more serious due to her size. When small dogs are too heavy, they cannot move well and lack of mobility can be fatal. Healthy weight for small dogs is imperative- the average Chihuahua weighs three to six pounds.

Here is a good test to see if your pet is obese:

Luckily, Lu-Seal the Chihuahua found new mom Julia who helped her get back in shape. Being healthy makes you so much happier!
