Lab Saves Friends in Canoe, Proving They'll Retrieve Anything

If you ever doubted how courageous and instinctive the Labrador is, then you need to take a look at this one-of-a-kind dog rescue.

Generally, dogs and water go together quite well. But when these two dogs get themselves into trouble, what should have been a fun outing quickly becomes a dog rescue.

These two dogs had been on shore when a strong gust of wind blew the canoe into the water. The dogs jumped right inside, but then the canoe was quickly swept up into the river's current. The dogs weren't ready to jump out of the canoe, but clearly realized they weren't in a great position.

Enter the Labrador. This awesome dog shows no hesitance in jumping into the water and heading toward the canoe. But what happens next in this dog rescue? You need to see it with your own eyes.

Labradors are true water dogs - they love the water, they're strong swimmers, and they'll play fetch in the water all day. Plus, Labs love to retrieve objects. All of that came into play in this dog rescue, but chances are there was a little something more at work here.

The Lab jumped into the water and made a beeline for the canoe. He grabbed the rope at the front, turned around, and then paddled back to his owner's voice. It seems like he knew exactly what he was doing.

Dogs often perform amazing rescues. Whether it's waking up a family when a fire starts or defending a child against a dangerous animal, they seem to know when their loved ones need them.

Is it instinct? Training? Something more? We may never know, but we're lucky to have such incredible animals in our lives.
