If you've ever dreamed of having a job with animals, this is the chance of a lifetime.
A city-dwelling tortoise named Henry, with over 11,000 followers on Instagram, is in need of a new friend. Last year, his mom found the perfect person to take Henry on his daily trips to Central Park, but she's moving soon, and that leaves Henry out of luck.
Henry's mom, who lives only a few blocks from NYC's famed Central Park, can't bear the thought of her life-loving tortoise being stuck inside all day while she's at work. Her solution? A Craigslist ad for a new tortoise walker.
The post appeared last week with a plea saying;
"I'm in search of a responsible animal lover to take Henry to Central Park on warm weekdays. I live a few short blocks from Central Park and have a pet stroller to get him to and from. Once he's there, Henry can roam freely under your watchful eye. No tortoise experience necessary, but you must be an animal person and also good with people. (Trust me -- they'll want to talk to you!) If you're sociable and like to hang out in Central Park, this is an easy gig."
The ad goes on to list other requirements including the ability to lift the 20-pound social media star in and out of his stroller and up the stairs to his walk-up home. Henry is 17 years old, still young for a tortoise, and he's surprisingly fast and active.
Today's International Day of Happiness AND Henry's 17th hatchday. Coincidence? I think not! #internationalhappinessday #happyday #happymonday #turtle #sulcata #sulcatatortoise #instatortoise #iliketurtles #turtlelove #reptile #reptilesofinstagram #tortoiseofinstagram #cutepets #petstagram #chelonian #?
Whoever takes up the gig will need to be quick on their feet to keep track of the land-dwelling reptile as he enjoys his time at the park. Responsibilities include stopping him from eating trash, keeping kids from feeding him, and talking with the countless people who will undoubtedly ask questions about the celebrity tortoise. Above all, Henry's walker needs to be an animal lover.
Henry is constantly posing for new Instagram-worthy material, and simple photography skills will put your application above the rest. The ad calls it an "easy gig" that pays $11 an hour. The perks of the job seem too good to be true, so hurry up and get your resume in before you miss out.
