Too Icy Outside? Then the Mini Horses Make Their Own Racetrack

Posted by Paige Cerulli

A barn aisle is as good as a racetrack when mini horses are cooped up and feeling silly.

And around the turn they come! These mini horses aren't at all disappointed that it's too icy to go outside. After all, they've turned the barn into their very own racetrack and are having a great time getting some exercise while galloping around.

Good luck getting any work done when this herd of miniature horses (plus dog) is on the loose. These cuties clearly delight in racing around the barn, seeing if they can outrun each other.

Just take a look at the adorable video captured of the event.

It can be difficult to decide what the right strategy is when you're dealing with icy turnout areas during the winter. It's important for horses to get daily exercise, and moving around has significant physical benefits such as promoting gut function and reducing the inflammation associated with arthritis. But if paddocks are icy, falls and injuries are possible.

If you have an indoor ring, turning the horses out indoors, even if for shorter periods of time, can be a great alternative. Or, of course, if you have a bunch of miniature horses and a barn setup like the one in this video, you can just let them turn your barn aisles into a racetrack for a while. Just be sure to stand well out of the way when this miniature herd comes thundering through! do you think of this adorable video? Tell us in the comments below!
