If you enjoy practicing yoga and also love riding, then there's a natural combination of the two that you'll want to check out - horse yoga.
Yoga is challenging. It requires strength, balance, self-control, and focus. Now, imagine doing yoga on the back of a horse. Your whole foundation has changed, and you need to exhibit that same strength, balance, self-control, and focus while you're mounted on a living animal six feet from the ground.
Horse yoga, or mounted yoga, has been emerging as an alternative to traditional yoga, and appeals to both horse lovers and yoga enthusiasts, alike.
So what is horse yoga, exactly? This unique yoga approach allows participants to connect with the horse and to experience the calming energy that working with horses can have. Horse yoga is often performed with a participant mounted bareback on the horse. A handler helps to keep the horse still, allowing the participant to focus entirely on the yoga experience.

Interested in giving mounted yoga a try? You may be able to find a program near you. To start, try calling local yoga facilities to see if they know of anyone offering horse yoga. You may also want to contact local spa and retreat centers, since more and more of these facilities are offering yoga and horse yoga programs.
When you do find a mounted yoga program, it's important to make sure that the program is a good fit for you. Find out if you will be wearing a helmet while mounted - it's always a good idea to wear a helmet when on a horse, even if the horse is being held by a handler. Ask if you can observe a class, and watch how the horses are behaved. Are they happy to do their jobs, or are they uncooperative and anxious?
