When you picture a muddy animal, hippos and pigs probably come to mind. But this muddy animal is neither of those.

This is Toby: a naughty dog who found himself the mud puddle of all mud puddles.

Maybe Toby just wanted to go for a swim, not realizing that he was diving into a mud puddle. Whatever the case, the damage is done, and Toby is one muddy animal.

There are many theories as to why some dogs are so attracted to mud. Some people believe that it's an instinct driving the behavior, and that dogs use mud to help mask their scent. Other people believe that mud helps to combat parasites and skin irritation. And others think that mud helps to keep dogs cool, making mud puddle diving a favorite summertime activity.

But there's another theory that makes even more sense: it's just fun to play in mud. Toby certainly seems to think so, much to his owner's dismay. Hopefully she lives nearby and didn't have to put Toby in a car to get home.

If you have a mud-loving dog, it's a good idea to bring along many towels each time you go for a walk. You may also want to invest in a waterproof seat cover for your car, in case your muddy dog can't be thoroughly cleaned off before the ride home. And oh yeah, stock up on plenty of dog shampoo, too!

Does your dog love playing in the mud as much as Toby does? Tell us in the comments.
