With Halloween right around the corner, there seem to be terrifying objects lurking around every turn.
This is particularly true when you head out on a horse for a trail ride. Not only do you have to deal with the normal terrifying objects, like porta-potties, but you also have to contend with Halloween decorations and signs. Needless to say, your relaxing trail ride can turn not-so-relaxing very quickly.
This rider captured some video of a bunch of potentially scary objects that she and her horse encountered. However, to her horse, some of these sights weren't as frightening as others. Take a look at the video and see if you can guess which objects truly terrified her horse, and which ones were a little less frightening.
When you trail ride, you never know what you'll encounter, so it's best to work with your horse in the ring and expose him to some different stimuli there. You can get a sense of what bothers your horse and what doesn't, and you can practice riding out a spook.
Even if you think you know what your horse will find frightening, sometimes horses surprise you. Remember, horses are prey animals, so it's in their nature to always be on high alert. Horses also see the world differently than we do, so objects that we might find mundane can startle our horses.
When you trail ride, it's a good idea to go out in a group for safety. If you can't ride with someone else, always let someone know where you'll be riding and bring along your cell phone in case you get separated from your horse.
Have a safe and happy Halloween with your horse!
