Ginny was rescued by the Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society and it's amazing how far she's come.
When Ginny was seized in 2015 from a negligent family in Texas, she was brought to Elizabeth Beverly, a horse foster part of the Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society's network.
She arrived at Beverly's ranch completely emaciated; on the body condition scoring system Ginny was a one.
Ginny performed in the training challenge to try to get adopted at the 2015 Bluebonnet Horse Expo. She unfortunately had a bit of stage fright and did not get adopted at last year's event. Ginny stayed at Beverly's ranch for another year.
Over the next few months, Ginny gained weight but almost at a suspicious rate. A vet was called to Beverly's ranch and they confirmed Ginny was pregnant. Because Ginny was so skinny when she was first rescued, nobody predicted that she was actually about to have a colt!
The pregnancy was successful and Ginny gave birth to a feisty colt named Prince. Over the year, Beverly took care of the two and life on her farm, with her other three horses, was a happy one.
But time came for the 2016 Bluebonnet Horse Expo, the Equine Society's annual adoption event. Ginny was up for adoption again, while Prince would stay with Beverly.
And this year was a success for Ginny! She was adopted out to a wonderful woman named Kathy Swinson.
As teary-eyed that Beverly got to see Ginny go, she was more than thrilled that her rescue horse would have a family that would care for her. The Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society is closely in touch with all their horse adopters, checking in on their horses twice a year after they are adopted. Beverly and Swinson also talked about perhaps reuniting mare and colt one day as they are both in the Austin, Texas area.
Maybe Ginny and Prince can go on rides together one day!
Ginny is a sweetheart. When you look into her eyes, you can see how tender and gentle this horse is. From the horrendous conditions she came from, she realizes the people around her now care for her well-being and that she is in a safe place. She will live a great life with Swinson and Beverly will always remember Ginny's miraculous recovery.
It was incredible to meet everyone involved in Ginny's adoption and to spend time with this sweet horse.
