FBI Investigating Tesla Model 3 Production Claims

The FBI is now investigating Tesla's claims of Model 3 production numbers.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the FBI is trying to determine whether or not Tesla provided inaccurate Model 3 production numbers since 2017, with several employees already receiving subpoenas.

Several well-publicized declarations by Musk were missed, including June 2018 of 5,000 Model 3's by end of Q2 and 5,300 Model 3s against 53,239 stated.

"When we started the Model 3 production ramp, we were transparent about how difficult it would be," said a Tesla representative."Ultimately, given difficulties that we did not foresee in this first-of-its-kind production ramp, it took us six months longer than we expected to meet our 5,000 unit per week guidance."

In turn, Musk has disputed reports over the severity of the investigation in a recent Recode interview.

"The amount of untruthful stuff that is written is unbelievable. Take that Wall Street Journal front-page article about, like, 'The FBI is closing in.' That is utterly false. That's absurd," fumed Musk.
