Equestrian Sport Belongs to the Most Passionate

The pre-dawn grooming sessions, the tack cleaning, the initial step up into the saddle - it's all part of being an equestrian.

We're born with it - this passion for horses that's so strong that we'll sculpt our lives around the sport. Equestrians are confident, strong, and fearless - after all, we mount up on 1,200-pound horses that could decide to send us into the dirt at any time.

The equestrian world is full of competitions, dreams, and picture-perfect show ring style. But there's more to it than that.

There are the moments when the stable is empty of everyone except you and the horses. There's that pre-breakfast nicker, the whole barn breaking into enthusiastic whinnying. And there are those moments when you're preparing your horse for an early-morning workout, lesson, or show.

These are the moments that the video below so beautifully frames.

Being an equestrian is more than being a rider. It's being a horseman or horsewoman, it's being determined, and it's being dedicated. It's knowing your horse better than you know yourself, and trusting him with your life. And, of course, it's hard work and sweat and long hours and aching muscles at the end of the day. But that's what makes it so great, isn't it?

And when you're truly lucky, all of those hours of preparation that you've put in will add up to one glorious moment in the competition ring where everything goes right, and you and your horse come out on top. Those days are the highest of the highs, and they are the times that remind you to push on during the days when everything seems to be going wrong.

Because we are equestrians, and we are a special group. Some say we're crazy, but the truth is, we're passionate. We have our dreams and we know, with enough time and work, we'll get there.
