Why did the chicken hitch a ride on a fire truck? Was he looking for a change of scenery? Was he attracted to the shiny red of the fire truck? Did he hear the siren and recognize a fellow noisemaker he wanted to hang out with?
We may never know the real reason this chicken hitched a ride on a fire truck, but we do know the Coral Springs Fire Department was in for quite the surprise when they discovered the hitchhiker.
The Coral Springs Fire Department wrote on their Facebook page:
"We thought we had seen it all, but then a chicken appeared on top of our fire truck after returning to the station! This feathered hitchhiker stole a ride on top of Engine 95 and took a ride for miles throughout the city as the crew drove to their station from the city garage. Our new friend has now taken up residence behind the station. We will wait a few days before we ask the Coral Springs Police to evict him!"
Before the Coral Springs Fire Department could make good on their comment to "evict" the chicken, he wandered away into new territory.
Kathy Tomaszewski Sommerhoff commented on the fire department's Facebook post that the rooster made his way across the canal, and she was keeping him in her garage.
Later that same day, Sommerhoff followed up with a comment that she had managed to find the chicken a new home on a farm. So maybe that's why the chicken hitched a ride on a fire truck...to find a new home.
