Dogs won't be the only ones showing off at this year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
As the most well-known and prestigious dog show in the United States, Westminster Kennel Club invites dog owners to participate in an annual competition to celebrate the best of the best in the world of canines.
This year, the show will take place Feb. 11 through Feb. 14 and will feature more than 2,800 dogs. Dog breeds may be the main event, but cats will also have a chance to take center stage.
The four-day event kicks off on Feb. 11 with AKC Meet the Breeds. For the eighth year in a row, pet lovers have the opportunity to interact with more than a 100 breeds that will be competing throughout the week. For the fourth year, The International Cat Association (TICA) will also be in attendance. They'll bring with them 35-40 different cat breeds for spectators to meet and learn about.
TICA will also host ongoing cat agility demonstrations for the public to enjoy. AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo said,
"Not only are we glad to again work with the Westminster Kennel Club to bring Meet & Compete to the public, but we're excited to have TICA back at AKC Meet the Breeds. We're looking forward to bringing attendees a fabulous lineup of dog and cat breeds to meet while learning about responsible pet ownership and what breed is right for them."
In addition to cats, the canine competition will also feature a number of new dog breeds including the American Hairless Terrier, the Pumi, and the Sloughi. Event days will be filled with both feline and canine agility competitions, obedience competitions, and individual breed competitions.
Everything will culminate on Feb. 13 and 14 with the 141st Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and Masters Obedience Championship presented by Purina and Pro Plan.
