Carlos Correa is an MLB hot shot, but he still takes time to play with his dog.
He was drafted first overall by the Astros in 2012, won Rookie of the Year in 2015, and now Carlos Correa is preparing for the upcoming 2017 season in the best way.
In a video Correa posted on Instagram, the professional baseball player practices his swings with help from his best friend, a puppy named Groot.
The pup, named after the talking tree from "Guardians of the Galaxy," may need to work on his ball pickup before he's ready to take over his dad's position at shortstop, but his reaction time and enthusiasm for the sport rivals that of every major leaguer. He charges across the perfectly manicured grass of Minute Maid Park to make his homerun-hitting, double-play-making dad proud.
But before Groot's ready to officially take the field, it looks like he's telling dad he needs new cleats.
When Correa isn't snagging balls from the air and facing 90 mph fastballs behind the plate, he's just like everyone else. He likes to spend time with his dog, and he even shares his love with his sister's cat.
Opening Day for the Astros is set for April 3 when they take on the Seattle Mariners. We know Correa's favorite four-legged fan will be cheering him on.
