Rover released their top dog names for 2016, but zooming in on Texas cities says a lot about what Texans in particular are naming their dogs.

Rover is a dog walking app that pairs pet sitters and walkers with owners and every year they compile their data on dog names across the country and release a report. Well, the 2016 report has been released and it is interesting to see cultural trends and how they affect what we name our four-legged friends.

For instance, since Pokemon Go was such a hit earlier this year, Pokemon character names are on the rise for dog names.

Rover has also compiled popular names for specific regions including Houston, Austin, and Dallas. And dog names, not surprisingly, reflect the region for where they live. For example, names like Espresso and Mocha are declining nationwide but are still popular in Seattle (the birthplace of Starbucks).

Along those lines, Texas dog names reflect the culture prevalent in that particular city. So names like Kombucha are more popular in Austin while the name Selena rose 102 percent in Dallas.

So without further ado, here are the top five dog names in each of Texas' largest metropolises.

Dallas

It has to be noted that Dallas dog owners have been naming their dogs simply Texas 12% more than in past years. The name Ranger is also up 12% and Cowboy is up 15%. The name Maverick also rose 28% in 2016.

But here are what dog owners are most popularly naming their pooches:

Boy Dog Names:

  1. Max
  2. Charlie
  3. Buddy
  4. Cooper
  5. Duke

Girl Dog Names:

  1. Bella
  2. Lucy
  3. Daisy
  4. Molly
  5. Lola

Austin

Not too surprisingly, the names Mac, Pixel, and Tesla all rose by 3% this year due to the tech movement to the capitol. Names like Sushi and Kombucha also rose in Austin.

Names like Brisket, Pickle, and Taco also rose 13% in Austin in 2016. But here are the top five names that dog owners leaned toward naming their pups:

Boy Dog Names:

  1. Max
  2. Charlie
  3. Jack
  4. Cooper
  5. Buddy

Girl Dog Names:

  1. Bella
  2. Lucy
  3. Daisy
  4. Lola
  5. Sadie

Houston

It's no secret that Houstonians love their sports teams; they're a proud bunch. The name Houston was up 65%, while the name Astros and Tequila rose over 100% for 2016.

But the most popular names are as follows:

Boy Dog Names:

  1. Max
  2. Charlie
  3. Buddy
  4. Rocky
  5. Duke

Girl Dog Names:

  1. Bella
  2.  Lucy
  3. Daisy
  4.  Lola
  5. Luna

What is the most common in these lists is the fact that we like to name our pets human names. This is due to the fact that more and more people are owning pets rather than getting married and having babies. 75% of the Millenials in the U.S. own a dog. So maybe naming their furry babies human names are filling the void.

San Antonio unfortunately did not have a list compiled using their data from Rover. But you can find out what your own name would be if you were a dog. The Rover name generator takes your name, gender, and year you were born to give you a moniker if you were to have four legs.
