Rather than cooking a turkey this Thanksgiving, Alec Baldwin has a different idea - why don't you adopt one, instead?
Thanksgiving doesn't generally mean good news for turkeys, but Alec Baldwin wants to change that. Rather than the traditional turkey Thanksgiving meal, Baldwin is urging Americans to choose a different dish for their meal and to adopt a turkey, instead.
Baldwin explained his decision in the following statement:
"Like most people, I don't like thinking about things that make me feel bad. But I also don't like animal suffering, so I feel the need to speak out about it. At least 46 million turkeys suffer heartbreaking fear and pain before being killed each and every Thanksgiving. This year, I'm supporting Farm Sanctuary's Adopt a Turkey Project because turkeys are just as friendly, smart, and full of feeling as my dogs, and they deserve to be treated better. I hope you'll join me by sponsoring."
Alec Baldwin is supporting the Adopt a Turkey Project. The project is now in its thirtieth year of operation. By adopting a turkey through the project, your $30 donation will go to supporting farm animals which live out their lives on sanctuaries owned by the project.
If you'd like to adopt a turkey, you can choose from Kristoff, Marshall, Perdita, Ruthie, Sandy, or Spunky; six turkeys which represent the 46 million turkeys slaughtered each year for Thanksgiving. If you choose to adopt a turkey, you'll even receive an adoption certificate.
So, will you be adopting a turkey instead of eating one this Thanksgiving?
