Shannon Doherty's dog knew there was something wrong before she was even diagnosed.
Shannon Doherty, actress most known for her role in "Beverly Hills, 90210," has been diagnosed with breast cancer but attributes her diagnosis to her German Shepherd Bowie.
"She would obsessively sniff right here on my right side for a long time before," Doherty told Entertainment Tonight. "So, it made sense when I got diagnosed."
Doherty has gone through eight rounds of chemotherapy since her diagnosis in 2015 and recently went through mastectomy surgery. She says that after surgery her dog Bowie, named after the late pop star, became even more protective.
"When I got back from surgery, [Bowie] again was kind of right in this area," Doherty said, alluding to her right side.
"Then when I had my first chemo, she would sniff my entire body up and down. And she was always protective before, but she has become this crazy, protective dog. It's hard to get close to me when she's around."
Doherty credits Bowie for initially finding her cancer and is obviously grateful to have him by her side. Her fight against the cancer, which has unfortunately spread to her lymph nodes, is ongoing and Bowie will be there battling beside her.
Dogs have 300 million sensors in their noses and there have been proven studies that they can indeed smell chemical imbalances in humans. Shannon Doherty and Bowie are proof that your dog can save your life in many different ways
