When the world's only SURFice dog needed a new ride, San Diego Honda Dealers knew exactly what to do.
Ricochet is not your average Golden Retriever. After losing interest in service dog training when she was a puppy, the energetic dog decided to take matters into her own paws. Her owner, Judy Fridono, has always known that Ricochet was born to help people. And when Ricochet decided to jump on a surf board, Judy knew she'd chosen her path.
Judy helped Ricochet to become the world's only SURFice dog, and now the duo has dedicated their lives to helping children with special needs, adults with disabilities, veterans with PTSD, and everyone in between.
They spend their days traveling back and forth between the beach, volunteer events, and their home in Southern California. They bring surf boards, paddle boards, life jackets, helmets, leashes, harnesses, and everything else they need to help people and stay safe in the water. Their old 2001 CR-V was feeling the strain.
It's so shiny I need sunglasses!
With over 240,000 miles on their old SUV, Ricochet and Judy knew they were pushing the car past its limits. They needed a solution, and San Diego Honda Dealers reached out to help. Jennifer Ball from San Diego Honda Dealers said in a press release;
"Ricochet's ability to make instant, deep, empathetic connections with the people she meets is simply astounding. All nine dealers looked at Ricochet's story and said yes, this is us, this is San Diego, this is a great fit, we're in. So we were honored to step up and give them a new vehicle to take on every new adventure."
Ricochet and Judy were presented with their brand new ride, a fully loaded 2017 CR-V, on Sunday during one of Ricochet's Waves of Empowerment surf therapy sessions. Judy was shocked when she first learned that San Diego Honda wanted to donate a vehicle. She said;
"We are truly thankful for this generous gift of a much needed, dependable vehicle to serve the communities in southern California. When a dealership steps up to provide resources for the unique work Ricochet does, it demonstrates their core value of investing in causes that change and save lives. This is a gift that will not only allow Ricochet to continue her work, but it will further her mission. It's a gift that will keep on giving!"
Ricochet and Judy work through a number of programs including Waves of Empowerment and Puppy Prodigies to help people of all ages. Ricochet helps people to gain confidence and have fun in the water. If you'd like to learn more about what this surf therapy dog does, visit her website.
