'A Horse's Prayer': What Your Horse Wants You to Know

A Horse's Prayer

The poem "A Horse's Prayer" gives voice to what every horse wants their owner to know.

If your horse could tell you how to give him a good life, what would he say? Would he ask for love? Shelter? Food? The poem "A Horse's Prayer" is a beautiful setting of the elements that every horse deserves in his life. And now, it's been set to a gorgeous video.

If you have a few minutes, it's well worth your time to watch this video. It's moving and elegant and brings "A Horse's Prayer" to life. Take a look.

The poem's text is as follows:

Feed me, water and care for me,
and when the day's work is done,
provide me with a shelter,
a pasture large enough for me
to run, romp and play.
Talk to me, your voice often means
as much to me as the reins.
Pet me sometime that I may serve you
more gladly and learn to love you.
Never strike, beat, or kick me when I don't understand what you want,
but give me a chance to understand you.

And finally oh master,
when my youthful strength is gone,
do not turn me out to starve or freeze,
or sell me to some cruel owner
to be slowly tortured or stoned to death,
but do thou, my master,
take my life in the kindest way, and
your God will reward you here and hereafter.
You will not consider me irreverent
if I ask this in the name of Him who was born in a stable...

Amen.

Beautiful, isn't it? If you'd like to make a horse's prayers come true, then give him the very best care possible. He'll love you for it.
