Who's ready for a good cuddle?

A popular mid-century humorist known by the pen name Josh Billings once said, "A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself."

That statement rings true for every dog owner, but there are certain breeds known for being more lovey-dovey than others. These dogs are always happy to curl into your lap and take a snooze or cover your face with sloppy kisses.

Here are eight affectionate dog breeds always in the mood for a cuddle.

1. Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and it's no surprise it tops the list as being one of the most affectionate.

They're known for being sweet family dogs that build strong bonds with their owners.

2. Greyhound

These speedy canines may be best known for kicking up dust on the racetrack, but there's more to them than their competitive sides.

Both miniature and full-size variations of Greyhounds are docile and friendly.

3. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

These little dogs are the definition of lap dogs. Their favorite place is wherever you are, and when they're not begging you to play with them, they're lounging by your side.

Their goal in life is to love and be loved by you.

4. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are big, goofy, lovable dogs that have long since been recognized by pup parents and Hollywood movie producers. Shadow from "Homeward Bound" and Buddy from "AirBud" are prime examples.

Don't pretend you don't cry EVERY SINGLE TIME you see Shadow limp over that hill at the end of the movie.

5. American Pit Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terriers are arguably the most misunderstood dogs out there. But in a reality, when humans don't force these animals to do unspeakable acts, pit bulls are in truth incredibly loyal, affectionate, and goofy dogs.

They've even been called nanny dogs because of how great they are with kids.

6. Old English Sheepdog

Who  needs a pillow or a blanket when you have a fluffy Old English Sheepdog in the family? These canines are crazy about cuddling. And that's perfect, because that thick coat of fur practically demands to be touched.

7. Irish Wolfhounds

It's not uncommon for these gentle giants to be mistaken for small horses instead of dogs, but don't let their size fool you. Irish Wolfhounds are simply lap dogs that eventually grow out of your lap.

But shhh, they tell them that. In their minds, they're still the perfect size.

8. Collie

As one of Hollywood's original canine superstars, these Lassie-dogs have proven both on the big screen and off that they're true people-dogs. While their natural instincts may cause them to "herd" the people in their lives, they build loyal relationships with their owners that are definitely "awww-worthy."

Other affectionate dogs that make excellent companions include the Irish Setter, Bulldog, the Brussels Griffon, Boxers, and Great Danes. These dogs become like family members in no time.

While every dog's personality is unique, these particular eight breeds are known for their loving and eager-to-please temperaments. Have a hard day at work? Feeling sick? Need a hug? There's no limit to the stress-relieving and mood-enhancing powers of these affectionate dog breeds.
