If you look at the post we included below, the weather can be 85 degrees but inside the car, it's 104 degrees in just ten minutes! This is such a tragedy. Three dogs died after they were left in a car in Rhode Island during Sunday's scorching heatwave, authorities said. The owner left the car on with the air conditioner running but it wasn't actually running cool air and there wasn't any water in the car for the dogs. The temperature was already 95 degrees.

ABC News reports that the vehicle was found outside a grocery store.

"The dogs -- a 4-year-old black lab, a 7-month-old black lab and a 4 -year-old gray Keeshond -- were taken to an animal hospital but none could be revived, according to police."

The windows were rolled up according to the police.

Even running into a grocery store can be deadly for your animals if you take them on errands during this heatwave. It's always better just to leave your animals at home.

ABC News also reports that the owner was charged with animal cruelty.

"The dogs' owner, 65-year-old Ann Garnett of Jamestown, was charged with three counts of unnecessary cruelty to an animal and three counts of confinement of an animal in a motor vehicle, authorities said."

The following charges were made: three counts of Unnecessary Cruelty to an Animal, a felony carrying a potential penalty of five years in prison and $1,000 fine for each count; and three counts of Confinement of an animal in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

Fatal heatstroke can happen quickly and you should know the signs to look for. We wrote a story with some tips here for folks.

If you see an animal left in a car that appears to be in distress always call the police. It's better to be safe than sorry and even if that car is running with the air condition on.

We know this is really horrible, please let us know what you think below.
