Puppy Adopted after Being Placed in Cereal Box, Dropped off at Animal Shelter

Yes! This has a happy ending! The 'Cap'n Crunch Cereal Box doggy' dumped at a California shelter gets her second chance. At least the person that dropped her off was creative. The idea they couldn't find any safe container literally blows my mind.

Below is a link to a short video posted by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services featuring the "lottery" for 'Razz Berry', the 9-week-old Maltese-Yorkie mix dropped in a unique "pet carrier" - a Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries cereal box.

They held a lottery for the adoption! The family that pulled out the highest number saw the story about 'Razz Berry' on the news on the same day their beloved 12-year-old Puggle, Ginger, died.

Riverside County Department of Animal Services posted the following statement on their website:

"We wanted to ensure all interested parties had the opportunity to participate in the lottery. It just so happens I captured a short clip of Teresa Sheets as she pulled the winning chip. Thank you to all the news media for the interest in this story. The good news is that a few of this morning's "non-winners" adopted other pets at our shelter. So it was a win-win for the four-leggers here in Riverside County."

The dog's new family will pick up Razz Berry next week after she has her spay surgery.

The lottery system for the adoption is so smart and what a clever idea to get more publicity. These folks get a big A+ from us for making sure this story was worth more than just one news cycle. The Sheets family of Riverside county are so lucky! This puppy is adorable. This tiny pooch will grow up loved and this is a story the Riverside County Department of Animal Services will never forget! Using social media to spread the work was brilliant!
