Everything is better with a friend, especially working out.
Fortunately for some adoptable shelter dogs at the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter, the students on the St. Joseph High School Cross-Country Team decided they could use some extra team members.
So, this past Thursday, each of the students on the team was paired with an adoptable shelter dog before a long run.
Coach Luis Escobar wrote, “I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun…the dogs or the kids. Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon.”
By all accounts, the experiment was a huge success. The runners got their workout in, and the shelter dogs got a fun outing. It was win-win for everyone involved.

There are plenty of shelter dogs who could use some exercise and companionship. Hopefully these creative high schoolers will inspire other teams to follow suit.
