Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society Rescues Texas Horses with Help from Fosters

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society makes fostering and adopting rescue horses in Texas possible.

Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS) is a rescue that prides itself on being different from most humane societies. Rather than having one large, centralized rescue, BEHS has created a large foster-care network across Texas, which means they are truly non-profit and rely completely on their amazing volunteers. Volunteers with space to foster rescue horses in their barns and on their land are available in nearly every county in Texas.

BEHS works closely with Texas law enforcement and are the first to be called when horses are seized due to mistreatment. The horses are then removed from their abusive situations and BEHS sends them to whichever foster has room to temporarily house a horse.

The horses are then brought to the society's annual Horse Expo where potential adopters are able to see the horse, and talk with veterinarians and the fosters about the rescue horses. Equestrians across the country come to the Expo to adopt horses.

We were able to visit a BEHS foster home outside Austin, Texas and meet a horse named Ginny.

We were lucky enough to see a happy ending for Ginny when we visited the 10th Annual Bluebonnet Horse Expo on October 22 where Ginny was adopted!

Tell us what you think about this amazing network of fosters in the comments below!
