Stray Dog Too Sick to Move or Cry Out Receives a Helping Hand

Posted by TF Oren

Rescuers from Animal Aid Unlimited, India wasted no time responding to a call about a severely ill stray dog.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the dog lying on the side of the road. It was cold and raining, but the dog was too sick to move and find shelter.

An Animal Aid Unlimited worker gingerly wrapped her in a blanket and put her in the rescue truck.

When the dog arrived at Animal Aid’s rescue facility, she was barely conscious. Medical staff got to work immediately and diagnosed the dog with an advanced case of pyometra, an infection of the uterus. Left untreated, pyometra can lead to death.

The dog needed emergency surgery in order to survive. However, her condition was too unstable for her to undergo an operation that day, so Animal Aid waited until the following day to perform the surgery.

During the operation, veterinarians removed the dog’s infected uterus, which was more than five times the size of a normal uterus.

The infection from her uterus had spread throughout her body. It took several weeks for the dog, named Millie, to bounce back. But sure enough, she did.
