On August 20, 2017, the New Zealand Police Department said goodbye to Constable Elliot, the police guinea pig.

With the passing of any pet, there is often a void that is left inside of you that only another pet can fill.

It's with great sadness that we announce Constable Elliot's passing. The adorable guinea pig passed away peacefully…

But filling the void left by this guinea pig would not be easy, as he was loved and cherished by all.

Over two months have passed since Constable Elliot’s passing, and it seems the New Zealand Police Department may have found just the right animal to fill his shoes: Tia the police cat. the human officers love her already- watch Senior Constable  Kerry Morrell introduce the new office feline.

Although she can only work for 30 minutes at a time and spends much of her shift sleeping and cleaning herself, she has already found her way into people’s hearts, according to social media.

With the amount of love Tia the police cat is getting on the New Zealand Police Facebook page, it’s really only a matter of time before Tia the police cat becomes Constable Tia, a crime fighter with her own police work.
