Harlow the service dog is super smart, has some awesome skills, and is genuinely adorable. Is it any wonder she’s taking over Instagram?

Meet Harlow the Golden Retriever; a service dog and an Instagram star. Harlow’s owner, Jaquie Blake, is 20 years old and has postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (also known as POTS). This nervous system disorder causes migraines, dizziness, fainting spells, and even narcolepsy. In short, it makes it difficult for Blake to go anywhere by herself. And that’s why she has Harlow by her side.

Harlow helps Blake with her mobility, but is also trained to sense when something bad medically is about to happen. In these cases, Harlow alerts Blake. Harlow also helps Blake with mobility skills like picking up car keys and dropped items, and bringing Blake a bottle of water from the fridge.

Blake and Harlow have been together for the past 15 months, and Harlow’s training gets better every day. Blake made an Instagram account to chronicle her dog’s progress, and today that account has more than 77,000 followers. Blake posts photos and videos of Harlow, and the beautiful dog has become quite popular.

It’s easy to understand why – take a look at some of these awesome photos and videos.

CBS News did an #article on my girl and I! (Link in my bio!) ? There is also a video floating around on Facebook. We are so grateful for this amazing opportunity to spread awareness about service dogs and invisible illnesses with the help of such an influential organization! ? Also, my girl's #EEG from two weeks ago was CLEAR – that means there were NO traces of #seizure activity! ? She's now slowly weaning off one of her #epilepsy medications. Hopefully my girl will be off all of them by her 2-year seizure-free anniversary, January 4th! ? In other exciting news, we are back at Mayo Clinic on Friday to go over some of my girl's genetic testing results. ? Although her health may be giving her a hard time lately, so many wonderful things are happening that my girl couldn't feel more #blessed! ? 15 Months #CBS #news #happy #grateful #cool #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #puppylove #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #disability #asthma #migraine #dysautonomia #POTS #ehlersdanlossyndrome

Gotta keep up with that body awareness! ? Did you know that us pooches are initially unaware of our back legs? ? We have to be taught that we do, in fact, have them through body awareness exercises! ? @Chronically_Jaquie used these skills to shape my "behind me" command, in which I pivot behind her legs in order to get out of the way. ? As you may have expected, my body awareness tactics are particularly useful in tight or crowded situations, allowing my girl and I move more effortlessly as a team. ? 14 Months #goodgirl #training #goodwork #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #puppylove #gloriousgoldens #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #disability #epilepsy #narcolepsy #asthma #migraine #dysautonomia #POTS #gastroparesis #ehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobility #fatigue #chronicpain #instagood

My girl had a gastric emptying study today! For a thorough report of this morning's happenings, find my girl @Chronically_Jaquie. ? Her daily symptoms of nausea, heartburn, stomach pains and not being able to eat much of anything have lead her GI specialist to believe she may have gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying). ? This test will help determine if this is the cause of her symptoms as it shows how quickly food moves through her stomach. ? Unfortunately my girl had an extremely hard time keeping down the mandatory breakfast, making her horribly nauseous the rest of the day. But 5 X-rays and 4 hours later, we got to go home! ? Because we were there so long, my girl removed my vest to make me more comfortable (it's true, service dogs do NOT have to be vested ?). Even though I wasn't in gear I still behaved impeccably well, quietly holding my down stay the entire time (and napping ?) while watching Disney movies with my hoomans. ? Now it's time for my girl to rest up and hopefully feel better. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! ❤ 13 Months #goodgirl #gastroparesis #GI #hospital #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #servicedogsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #retrieversgram #gloriousgoldens #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #disability #epilepsy #narcolepsy #asthma #migraine #orthostaticintolerance #ehlersdanlos #fatigue #chronicpain #instagood

Puppies such as myself are especially explorative with our sniffers and because of this, grocery store training can be of particular difficulty. ? Just imagine all the tasty aromas in the air as well as the food placed directly at nose level! ? Throughout my service dog training @Chronically_Jaquie has taught me how to maintain self-control when surrounded by the many tasty temptations. ?? Before I required constant redirection, and now I'm finally able to retrieve certain food items for my girl – without eating them! ? Also notice that I'm ignoring the pork chops right beside me. ? Of course I still make mistakes every now and then as I'm only halfway through my training. ? But so far, I'm doing a great job! And don't worry, I get plenty of "off-duty" time to use my sniffer however I please. ? 14 Months #goodgirl #sniff #Publix #shopping #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #puppylove #gloriousgoldens #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #disability #epilepsy #narcolepsy #asthma #migraine #dysautonomia #POTS #gastroparesis #ehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobility #fatigue #chronicpain

After a long three days, this trip to Mayo Clinic has come to an end. ? Visit @Chronically_Jaquie if you want details of our medical adventure, because I'm only going to give a *very* brief summary. From the autonomic testing, we learned that my girl either has orthostatic intolerance or POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). We are waiting for further clarification from her doctors. ? Both basically mean that her heart must work harder than average when she stands, leading to dizziness, fatigue and a high likelihood of passing out. ? One doctor says she has Ehlers Danlos, but another disagrees. Yes, we are a bit confused on this as it will leave us without an answer for her chronic joint pain and certain hypermobile joints (such as her neck), but we have yet another referral for this. ? The geneticist has decided to look for Mitochondrial Disease within my girl's DNA. In this photo I'm giving my girl some love after they took her blood – a lot of it – for this testing. ❤ Mitochondria are located within our cells and are responsible for energy production, when they malfunction it can cause issues in every system. My girl also had neuropsych testing to look into cognitive defects and we will have the results next week. ? We learned so much more, all of which @Chronically_Jaquie explains in detail, but these are some main points. It's nice to finally have answers and my girl was so grateful to have such a helpful pup at her side! ? She also feels infinitely blessed to have such amazing health care available to her, it is definitely not something she will ever take for granted. ? The diagnosis process is a long, confusing and sometimes frustrating journey, but it's one chronic illness warriors must go on in order to achieve those much sought after answers. ? Yes, we are a bit perplexed by some things from this Mayo trip, but we also feel empowered with new information! There is still much more to do at Mayo, but for now my family and I can relax in our home sweet home! ?? 13 Months #goodgirl #mayoclinic #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #chronicillness #spoonie #invisibleillness

Sorry for the absence, but my girl and I are back! ? Check out this neat video of me performing my "water bottle, I'm thirsty" task. ? This is just one of the many ways I help @Chronically_Jaquie when she finds herself off balance due to a pain or dizziness flare. ? Even when she is stuck in bed or on the couch, she must take her medication on time. ? So I'm here to bring her water to ensure that happens! I'm all about lending a paw to help my girl. ?❤ I guess that's why they call me "helper" dog Harlow! ? 14 Months #goodgirl #helpful #medicine #water #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #puppylove #gloriousgoldens #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #disability #epilepsy #narcolepsy #asthma #migraine #dysautonomia #POTS #gastroparesis #ehlersdanlossyndrome #hypermobility #fatigue #chronicpain

It's my birthday! ???? I've grown so much this past year, but not just in size! My horizons within service dog training has broadened farther than my girl ever thought possible, as I've gone above and beyond my calling. ? She truly feels blessed to have me at her side, day in and day out, acting as her side kick in this crazy, chronic illness filled life. ? This day roughly marks half way through my training, and we are all so excited to see where the next year will take me. ? I'm sending all of y'all puppy kisses for sticking with me through all my growing up shenanigans. ? My girl and I are so grateful for all the amazing support! Now it's time to celebrate my special day with belly rubs, yummy treats and I've even heard mention of a special trip to Petco for a birthday surprise! ?? 12 Months #goodgirl #happybirthday #birthdaygirl #firstbirthday #oneyearold #celebrate #hooray #prettyinpink #servicedogintraining #servicedog #workingdog #dogtraining #servicedogsofinstagram #respectthevest #dogsofinstagram #cute #goldenretriever #puppy #instapuppy #retrieversgram #gloriousgoldens #invisibleillness #chronicillness #spoonie #spoonielife #epilepsy #narcolepsy #asthma #migraine #ehlersdanlossyndrome

Clearly, Blake and Harlow make a great pair. Harlow is an excellent example of how intelligent and well-trained service dogs are. She makes Blake’s life easier and safer by performing some everyday tasks, but her ability to sense emergent medical issues is also vital to Blake’s safety.

You can also see how Harlow genuinely enjoys the work that she does – she’s the perfect example of everything that a great service dog is.
