After living in a home for seven years, adjusting to life in the shelter hasn’t been easy for a sweet dog named Baby.
During the day, when the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center in Derwood, Maryland, is full of people and animals making noise, Baby seems like any other happy dog.
She greets all people with affection and is quick to show off her collection of toys. She enjoys being pet and going on walks, but her spirit sinks as the sun starts to set.
Almost every night, since Baby was surrendered to the shelter last week, the heartbroken dog has cried herself to sleep.
Hannah Carl, the shelter’s program administrator, took this video of baby’s mournful nightly ritual:

Meet Baby, the dog with the saddest cries you'll ever hear.Baby was brought to our shelter recently by her owner, the only family she has ever known, felt that they could not care for her any longer. Baby, while very sweet and mild mannered, has not been adjusting well to living in a shelter. At night, Baby cries out in her kennel. Our dog kennel area, which is usually filled with lots of loud barking, becomes silent other than Baby's cries. Baby is 7 years old and very shy. She is wary of new people, but is just nervous, not aggressive. However, once she's spent a little while with a new person, she opens up and enjoys snuggling and being pet. Baby is stressed and sad, so please help us find a new home for her!

Baby has known only one family her entire life, and being surrendered to the shelter at seven years old is having an emotional toll on the normally happy dog. Shelter staff is determined to find her a home as soon as possible – somewhere she’ll never have to feel alone or afraid.
While nervous around new people at first, the shelter says Baby easily warms up to people who are kind and gentle with her. She was surrendered to the shelter when her former owner decided they were too busy to provide the care and attention the dog deserved.
Carl describes Baby as being “sweet and mild mannered.” All she wants is someone to pet her head and keep her company during long nights.
After posting the video of Baby’s cries to Facebook, thousands of people fell in love. A sympathetic person has since come forward to sponsor Baby’s adoption fee, which means Baby can be adopted to a good home for free.
If you’re interested in giving Baby a new reason to sleep soundly at night, call Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center at (240) 773-5900.
