When horseback riders have problems, they get creative and come up with genius equestrian life hacks to make horse life easier.
Horseback riders are perpetually short on time, and there’s always more work to be done when you own horses. That’s why these 15 horse hacks are so genius.
These barn hacks save horse owners time, make life easier, and will leave you thinking, “Why didn’t I come up with that?”
Take a look!
1. Simplify your stall cleaning with a grate.
2. Never get out to the paddock to find you’ve forgotten the scrub brush again. Attach them to water buckets!
3. Banish hoof snowballs.
GUYS! I have found the cure to "snowballs" packed in the horses feet and it actually WORKS! HOOFLEX! who'd have thunk!? tried it out on my girls today, I put it on this morning before turn out and tonight when I brought them in no one was walking on balls! 😂 but seriously, put it on in the snow for best results so you don't get shavings stuck to the hooves first and whalah! 👌🏼🐴❄️ #horsebarns #hooflex #horsehacks
4. Satisfy the itchy horse with a few dollars worth of brushes.
5. Get your horse’s whites white again. Make horse grooming interesting for long manes and tails!
Hate when your gray horse's tail yellows? Give ketchup a try! Apply the ketchup liberally to the tail and leave for 10-20 mins to soak in. You might want to tie the saucy tail up or place it in a carrier bag whilst it soaks in to keep ketchup off the rest of the horse! Rinse and repeat as needed. The red lifts the yellow colour out, getting your greys whiter than white! 6. Keep the bored horse entertained.
7. Stop blankets from slipping.
8. Make that trip to the muck pile worth it.
9. Use tennis balls to quiet your cross ties.
🎾As Wimbledon fever takes over from the Glastonbury highs and Brexit lows, we spied this clever barn hack from Pro Equine Grooms on Pinterest. "Keep a tennis ball on the end of cross ties to avoid the annoying clang. Also it may give your barn dogs something to stare at for hours!" Definitely worth a try!
10. Pool noodles prevent saddle rack marks in your saddles.
#Repost @eqeqstubben ・・・ What am I up to with all of these pool noodles? Why, protecting my flocking! Your saddles spends most of its time sitting on a saddle rack, and metal racks can cause pressure points, altering your flocking and your fit! Simple fixes can save your saddle. 11. Who needs expensive ice boots?
12. Keep leg boots neat and tidy in your tack room.
13. Never buy boot trees for tall boots again.
14. Keep tangled wraps at bay.
15. The perfect saddle pad wash rack solution.
Life is tough when you don't have a washer and dryer at home. I've found that it's easier to wash my saddle pads in a bucket than to be put on the laundromat's black list 😉 I use a stiff brush on my saddle pads in between uses to keep the fuzzy side fuzzy, so I wash them a lot less than my other saddle pads. My favorite detergent to use is Tide (I love the smell!) but you can use any non-bleach detergent. #teamdraper #alternativetherapy #celliant #barnhacks #equestrian #equestrianlifestyle #saddlepad #dressage #showjumping #eventing #hunterjumper
